Social entrepreneurs start businesses that integrate a social cause into the business model. They look for opportunities, business ideas, and solutions that can be turned into sustainable businesses that help social needs. These social needs can be anything from medicine services and education to water accessibility and pulling people out of poverty.

 

TOMS Shoes is an example of a social enterprise. They have built a business model that donates 1 pair of shoes to children in Argentina for every pair bought buy customers. The great thing about a social company like TOMS is that there is so much word of mouth marketing going on. A company that focuses on a cause will get mentioned by websites, blogs and people in general. This saves on advertising costs, letting the company focus on the helping the social issue.
